Reborn on the
4th of July

A Retreat to Celebrate Our Heroes
& Strengthen Our Families

Trade the fireworks of the valley to for six nights of starlit skies, the endless smell of campfires, where disconnecting from electronics and reconnecting with the people that mean the most to you, learning ways to effectively strengthen your family & making memories that will last a lifetime are the most important things on the itinerary.

Life on Purpose Academy is excited to announce its First Annual Silent Fourth of July Camping Retreat for active military, veterans, first responders and their families.

Part of Life on Purpose Academy’s mission statement is “the desire to contribute to those who unselfishly serve. We have no words to express our depth of gratitude to the men and women who serve in our armed forces and as first responders in our local community. Our mission is to create ways to support and sustain these men and women, and their families, through special services and events.”

This First Annual Silent Fourth of July Camping Retreat is just such and event.  We know of so many military and first responders suffering with PTSD/PTSS and are struggling to keep their families together.  This retreat is designed specifically for you and your family. From daily mentoring on how to strengthen your marriage and your family, to fishing, horseshoes, campfires, s’mores, night games and stories around the campfire, we have something for the whole family.

This is an all-inclusive retreat.  You don’t have to cook, clean or even hike in your own gear.  We want you to focus on ONE THING – strengthening your family and creating memories that will last a lifetime.  We provide three meals, snacks and treats every day.  We prep and clean up after every meal so you don’t have to lift a finger.  We provide the tents (each family will have their own), chairs and all other camping supplies.  You only need to bring your sleeping bag, pillow, padding of choice, and your personal items.

Discover the Beauty of Utah’s Uinta Mountains

This LDS Christ-centered retreat will have your family leaving stronger, more connected, and with tools to support one another in a healthy family environment.  There will be both clinical and non-clinical on-site counseling opportunities included with this retreat.

Wake up each morning to the smell of a campfire, hot chocolate in your mug, frying bacon and sausage, and fresh pine all around.  There are no ringing cell phones – there won’t be electronics of any kind.  You’ll have an opportunity to really connect with your family in a way you haven’t been able to before.

Build a
Mind of Steel,
Heart of Gold,
& Spirit of Titanium ™

Take control of the thoughts in your head

Learn how serving others solves your problems

Protect your spirit with five foundational habits

The thoughts you have determine the life you live.  If you struggle with bad thoughts, you will get bad results in life.  We have proven ways to change those bad thoughts into awesome thoughts which create awesome results.  If you struggle in any area of your life, it is because of the thoughts and beliefs in your mind.  You have the power within you to change. Creating a mind of steel will change your life and the lives of your family.

It’s a simple formula: Bad thoughts = Bad emotions = Bad actions = Bad results  So let’s change those BAD things to AWESOME things!

We will teach you how to:
Recognize the positive and negative voices in your mind
Release the negative voices and install positive ones
Build mental armor to protect your mind
Unlock the power of your mind to create the life you’ve always wanted

It’s really easy to get so wrapped up into what is going on in our own lives, we believe we have every excuse in the world to focus on just us and our families.  I’m here to tell you though that if you are struggling with ANYTHING, the quickest and most effective way to solve your problem, is to get out and serve others.

We will teach you:
Why it’s important to serve others
How serving others WILL solve your problems
Ways to serve that won’t deplete your time or money

Did you know that titanium is a transition metal? Its properties allow it to morph into something else.  This is exactly what our spirits are doing – transitioning from a mortal to an eternal existence.  Wouldn’t it be nice to have the feeling of peace in our homes all the time?  Wouldn’t you like to know how to bring that about?

We will teach you:
Five foundational habits you should be incorporating into your life

A Look Outside ..

You wake up and feel the chill in the air.

The campfire and hot chocolate with extra whipped cream beckons you out of your tent.

The smell of bacon and sausage waifs across the campsite.

There is nothing for you to do except enjoy the beauty God has provided.

The birds are chattering about what an exquisite day it’s going to be.

Your kids are giggling as they run around.

Even the teenagers seem to be more alert and interested in what is going to happen today. 😉

Charlene Lenkart

Therapy Ninja

You’re going to love Charlene!  She is a licensed clinical mental health counselor in Utah.  She has experience working with a wide range of issues, including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, and addiction.  Her main specialty, and the majority of her clientele, are women of all ages struggling with a variety of issues, from learning to set boundaries and improving relationships, to dealing with stress and anxiety.   She also has extensive experience treating addictions, including pornography and substance addictions.

Charlene’s counseling style is accepting and genuine.  She is real, with no pretense.  Charlene is no way “clinical” or “detached.”  Sometimes all you need is someone to listen while you explore your emotions.  Other times you may need a push to get uncomfortable so you can learn new skills to get unstuck. She tailors your treatment to your individual needs.  Charlene believes YOU are the authority on you.

Charlene has learned one thing that she keeps having to learn over and over:  not to take herself or life too seriously. Serious things happen, yes, and suffering is real and important.  She also knows that we add so much more to our suffering with self-doubt, fear, insecurity and self-defeating thoughts and behaviors.  We love that she doesn’t believe humor and counseling are mutually exclusive.  Charlene hopes to help you learn to know, love, and accept yourself while taking steps to create a more fulfilling life.

Charlene loves walking and generally just being outside, and she love peanut butter.  Charlene loves hiking and camping with her sweetheart and two dogs, who they treat like kids.  If she could have any super power, she would be able to eat anything she wanted without any adverse health consequences.  Charlene loves good food! Oh, and she’s a vegetarian with aspirations of being a vegan one day. Her hero is her mom.

What are you waiting for?

Where in the world are you taking us?

We are going to be camping in the gorgeous high Uinta mountain in the Mirror Lake recreation area alongside the Duchesne River.

What are we sleeping in?

Each family will have their own 8-person tent.  But let’s be realistic, no tent ever fits the amount of people it says.  So we plan on 4 to 5 people per tent.  If your family is larger, you will be provided a second tent.  It will be up to you how you organize your family members.

Why do we have to provide our own bedding?

By having you bring your own bedding, it keeps retreat costs down since we don’t have to clean sleeping bags after every retreat.  Bowling shoes anyone?

You’ll also sleep better if you bring what you are comfortable sleeping in from a sleeping bag to blankets and pillows. Also everyone has their own preference about pads and air mattresses.  Just remember, if you bring a mattress, you’ll need either a manual or battery operator pump to blow it up.

What kind of food are you providing on this retreat?

It’s all out camping fare and you won’t be disappointed!  We promise you won’t be hungry on this campout.  There will be something for everyone.

If you have food allergies, dietary restrictions, or have someone in your family that is a really picky eater, please contact us directly after you are registered.  We’ll design a meal plan for you.  Our phone number will be included in your registration confirmation.

Why are we meeting at the trail head instead of the camp site?

What’s awesome about where we’ll be camping is it is a ROUGH road that requires a 30-minute drive into camp.  A high clearance 4-wheel drive vehicle is needed to get there.  The good news about that is you REALLY have to want to get down there which eliminates a LOT of campers we would otherwise be competing with.  We promise it is worth the drive and time it takes to reach camp.

What if there is an emergency?

Life on Purpose Academy will have a satellite phone on site to make calls in the event of a medical emergency.

Why do I have to provide my own fishing gear and license?

Everyone has their own preferences and there is no way we can accommodate everyone.  When you bring your own gear, you’ll have a better time.

Life on Purpose Academy is not responsible for providing or confirming fishing licenses.  If you fish without a license and get caught, that is your responsibility, and you will be liable for any fines and other consequences.
